Happy New Year from SLC

It seems like 2023 flew by and the new year has surprizingly arrived! A new year full of hope, promise and opportunities! Before we move on to the new, we would like to take a moment to look back and thank everyone that supported Silver Linings Cooking this year. We are so grateful for your Shabbat and event orders, and thankful that you enjoyed our SLC cooking!

What better time than a new year to try new foods! I have been diary free for a while now and finally convinced Norma to try the plant based cheese. She was quite surprised at its delicious taste! There are now so many choices out there for non dairy cheeses. This past Shabbat we made pesto pasta with grilled chicken. We made the pesto with plant based parmesan cheese. It was delicious !!! My youngest Adena (who is the queen of making the best grilled cheese sandwiches) made me a grilled cheese sandwich the other day , using gluten free bread and a plant based smoked gouda cheese. For extra amazing flavor she topped it with caramelized onions. She cooks it with such care, slowly to let the bread toast, and covering it with a lid so that the vegan cheese has the extra time that it needs to melt properly. OMG, it was the best!!!! The cheese was hot and gooey and the bread was perfectly toasted. YUM!!!! If you are looking to make a change to your diet in 2024 maybe going dairy free is what you are looking for. Check out the section of plant based cheeses at Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Plum Market, Zerbos, even Miejer has a few options.  You will be amazed at the choices that exist today. If you love greek salad like I do but hate to give up feta, not to worry, the vegan feta is wonderful! Norma is testing out her new found plant based cheeses. Next up for her is to try chicken parmesan with the non dairy parmesan cheese. Stay tuned for how it turns out!

As we leave behind 2023 and arise to a new year, we pray that 2024 brings the release of all the hostages being held in Gaza, and an end to the war in Israel. We hope for calm and peace around the world. May we all be blessed with good health, happiness, and only joy in the new year.

Happy New Year from our kitchen at SIlver Linings Cooking to yours!
